Jennifer misses the point with her response to the naked picture hack

Predictably Jennifer Lawrence has said she's angry about the nude photo hack leak.

Better again, she's not apologetic. Her reaction is in the latest issue of Vanity Fair, where she explains: "Every single thing that I tried to write made me cry or get angry. I started to write an apology, but I don't have anything to say I'm sorry for." So far, so good.

But then she follows it up with: "I was in a loving, healthy, great relationship for four years. It was long distance, and either your boyfriend is going to look at porn or he's going to look at you."

What sort of rationalisation is that? Why does it matter if it was a loving, serious relationship or that it was long distance?

It's like she's implying taking nude pictures in any other circumstances or relationship wouldn't be acceptable.

consenting

That a woman who is sexual and is not in a committed relationship is somehow deserving of scorn.

If two consenting adults are involved, why would it be any less of a violation, even if it was within a fling?

It's back to the old chestnut, he's a stud if he sleeps around, and she's a slut. So we still live in a world where double standards for men and women are the norm.

The fear of female nudity and female sexuality has created the atmosphere for so called 'slut shaming' - the practice of naming and shaming girls or women deemed to be whores, 'easy', 'slags' or engage in 'slutty behaviour'.

I wish Jennifer Lawrence had taken the opportunity to say she was just angry with the leak and hadn't bothered following it up with the 'I was in a serious relationship, otherwise I wouldn't have done it' guff.

The fact is that it shouldn't matter whether she did it at all.
