Jacksonslady claims a nice compensation for Dempsey

Jacksonslady is a mare that has got a few mentions in these columns over the last three years and it's fantastic to be talking about her again today after she won yesterday's Latin Quarter Chase under a masterful ride from Barry Geraghty (pictured, left).

She had been third in the Galway Plate behind Carlingford Lough last year on her first run for JP McManus and that was her plan again this year. But as she wasn't going to make the cut for that race (second reserve) Philip Dempsey rerouted her to yesterday's conditions chase over the same distance and she yet again proved how tough she was to hold off the classy mare Cailin Annamh.

I ride out for Philip every morning and Jacksonslady has been a wonderful servant for the yard. It's fantastic for everyone to be involved in a winner for JP McManus, who is such a great supporter of the game.

Philip has just moved into a new yard in the last couple of months and Jacksonslady is now the fifth winner from eight horses since we moved so hopefully that bodes well for the future.

She had to be tough to win yesterday and after being off for a while it was brilliant to see her hold on.

If a phone call does come to run in the Galway Plate today, Philip will see how she is before deciding. She's a right one.
