Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola will not stand in Bastian Schweinsteiger's way if he wants to join Manchester United.

Guardiola has confirmed that Louis van Gaal's top midfield target is free to complete a move to Old Trafford this summer.

But the Bayern manager added that the 30-year-old German international remains part of his plans, despite United's interest.

"Of course I am planning to work with Basti next season," he said. "Basti has to decide.

"If Schweinsteiger wants to stay here then that's perfect. He's a top player. I told him, the future depends on you.

"I do not know, what happened.

"Basti has managed a great career. he must decide what he does alone."

Van Gaal has identified Schweinsteiger as a player capable of adding authority to his midfield.

He is also pursuing PSG striker Edinson Cavani, while Portugal winger Nani is set to leave United for Fenerbahce with the Turkish club saying negotiations were underway.
