Is ¤50 clamp hike justified?

IT is hard to see a justification to hike clamping fees in Dublin by €50. The proposal, made by the city's parking appeals officer, is to raise the fee from €80 to €130.

The purpose of clamping should not be to make money, but to enforce parking laws. The council already makes €30m a year from parking fees. The fine for a speeding offence is €80. Should a parking offence now be considered more serious?
