International date is set for Australia

WILLIE MULLINS' Melbourne Cup fourth Simenon is set to have his first start over hurdles since December 2012 when lining up in the Grade Three Grimes Hurdle at Tipperary tomorrow afternoon.

The globe-trotting seven-year-old was last seen finishing fifth in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot but with the ground described as good at Tipperary, connections have opted to giving him another run over hurdles.

Owner Nick Peacock suggested that a return to the Melbourne Cup would be unlikely as the risk of the horse not making the cut for the race is too high so Simenon is expected to mix it between the staying flat races and over hurdles while he gets his preferred sounder surface.

Simenon will face seven rivals for his jumping return and amongst them is Grade One winner Lucky William who will have his first start since winning the Grade One Ryanair Novice Chase at the 2012 Punchestown Festival.

Tomorrow's action at Tipperary is a mixed card and also features the listed Excelebration Stakes.
