'Insane!' - Aldo lashes out at Liverpool transfer failure
LIVERPOOL legend John Aldridge has branded Liverpool’s decision not not cough up an extra £1.5m for Clint Dempsey as "insane".
The former Republic of Ireland striker has blasted Liverpool’s behaviour in the final days of the transfer window which has them severely short on strikers.
“We’re left scouring the market for free agents after the madness of failing to sign anyone before the deadline last Friday night,” he said.
“Rodgers would have got three really good years out of Dempsey. To not back him and miss out because we wouldn’t pay an extra £1m or £2m is insane.
“The owners believed it was too much for a 29-year-old but that’s nonsense. I came to Liverpool when I was nearly 28 and scored 63 goals in 104 games.
“Rodgers kept his side of the bargain by trimming the squad but in return he’s been badly let down. Someone hasn’t delivered for him.
“As it is we’ve got Suarez and Borini, along with two kids in Adam Morgan and Samed Yesil. Manchester United have got Rooney, Hernandez, Welbeck and Van Persie.”
