A massive street paint fight is set to take place in Dublin later this month as part of a renowned Indian festival.

Large quantities of coloured powder are currently on their way to Tallaght, where Holi -- one of Asia's most popular festivals -- will be celebrated.

South Dublin County Council is one of the sponsors for the event next March 19 -- where people throw coloured powder and water at each other in an air of celebration -- on the Belgard Road, near the Square shopping centre.

An estimated 30,000 Indians live in Ireland.

Bharath Kumar from Unitas ISAC (Integration through Sports, Arts, and Culture) said said: "We will be bringing traditional things into this.

"It's the first time in Ireland on a big scale. As a community we celebrated it before. Our vision is to integrate through sports, arts and culture."

Tickets are €12 and can be purchased through the website www.festivalofcolors.ie.
