IN BRIEF: Tourist shot in face by youth

A DUBLIN youth has been sentenced to 12 months' supervised probation after he admitted firing a pellet gun at a tourist.

The 17-year-old shot a Brazilian man in the face causing a superficial cut, Dublin Children's Court heard.

The youth, now aged 18, pleaded guilty to assault causing harm and the attempted robbery of the tourist, at Railway Street, Dublin, last June. The teen, who is in a FAS training course, also admitted driving without insurance receiving a six-year road ban.

Last month, the youth, who has 14 prior convictions, spent a week in custody on remand.

McCourt sells LA Dodgers

Los Angeles Dodgers owner, Frank McCourt, has agreed to sell the bankrupt baseball team for $2bn (€1.5 bn) to a group that includes former LA Lakers basketball star Magic Johnson.

The agreement will lead to a transfer of the team by the end of April. It is subject to approval in the federal bankruptcy court.

As part of the agreement McCourt and partners would acquire the land sur-rounding Dodger Stadium for $150m dollars (€112m).

Romney iPads stolen from car

Laptops and iPads containing sensitive information about Republican presidential front-runner Mitt Romney were stolen from one of his campaign cars in San Diego.

The items belonging to two Romney campaign staffers were taken as well as two radios.

The thefts last Friday were first reported by KGTV, a local San Diego TV station.

A Romney spokeswoman said the campaign didn't suspect the items were stolen for political reasons.

Actress faces fraud charge

Actress and model Donna Air is to stand trial accused of fraud.

The 32-year-old former Byker Grove star is charged with fraudulently obtaining a parking permit by false representation from London's Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

In December, Air appeared at Isleworth Crown Court and denied the charge.

She will return to the court for trial today.
