I don't expect Movie Show to come back, admits Mairead

The new film show was suspended earlier this year in its first series of production due to low ratings.

While the show has not officially been given the axe, Mairead (32) is not expecting to hear good news anytime soon.

"No, I don't expect to hear anything," the Today FM star told the Herald.

"I'd say the Movie Show is parked now. I can't see it ever coming back."

But Mairead said the news wasn't a hard pill to swallow.

"No, not at all, some things work out and others don't. It was grand and it doesn't have any effect on me."

The Finglas native is a regular feature on the Ray D'Arcy Breakfast Show and has been working with the radio host for over 10 years.

The mum to five-year-old Dara began her move on to the small screen in recent years with presenting roles on Celebrity Bainisteoir and guest slots on The Panel.

Mairead, who is a self-confessed movie buff, was a co-host of the Movie Show alongside Eoghan McDermott, but her TV career is far from over.

The Dubliner will next appear on the Eurosong special on the Late Late Show on Friday week where she will be one of five mentors bidding to win the contest and represent Ireland with their act at the Eurovision in Sweden next May.

"I've always been a big Eurovision fan and over the last two years, I have been on the Late Late Show panel giving my comments after everyone has performed so I think RTE said 'let's flip her and put her on the other side'."

Mairead and her act Kasey Smith (22) will compete against four other acts on the Late Late Show. The girls are one of the early Eurosong favourites, but Mairead has played down the tag.

"I don't know if I believe that," she said. "It's down to public votes and jury votes on the night so please vote for me. I'll be the only girl there out of the mentors on the night on the night, but the guys very much know what they're doing," she added.
