HSE targets suppliers

THE HSE is believed to be negotiating reductions with key suppliers of up to 30pc.

It is looking for cuts of at least €170m from the cost of the goods and services it buys as the Government prepares to cut €1bn from the overall budget in 2011. It's believed that the group responsible for running the country's public health service will initially talk to the 30 to 50 suppliers with which it spends the largest sums.
