Hendrick back in action

IRELAND international Jeff Hendrick is a step closer to full fitness after he lined out for Derby County's reserve side yesterday, his first game since he suffered an ankle injury at the start of the season, writes AIDAN FITZMAURICE.

Hendrick (21) suffered a cruel blow in August when he injured his ankle while on duty for the Rams and that forced him to miss a chunk of their season, as well as sidelining him for the Ireland games against Wales, Sweden, Austria, Germany, Kazakhstan, Latvia and last night's clash with Poland.

But the Dubliner started for Derby's U21/reserve side in a game against Burnley yesterday, with Rams boss Steve McClaren on hand to check on his progress, and McClaren will now assess whether to add Hendrick to his squad for Saturday's league game against Bournemouth.
