Hand holds onto Cup for Dhúlaigh

SOCCER: CDVEC SCC SHELBOURNE CUP

COLáISTE DHúLAIGH 0; LARKIN COMMUNITY COLLEGE 0 (Coláiste Dhúlaigh won 4-3 on penalties aet)

COLáISTE DHúLAIGH retained the Shelbourne Cup after holding their nerve in a penalty shoot-out against a Larkin team that contributed to a hugely entertaining final at the AUL Complex, Dublin.

Dhúlaigh's 'keeper, Chung Tai Hand, who was outstanding in last year's final, impressed again saving Larkin's opening penalty from their captain Adrian Rafferty before Paddy Ellis slotted home for the holders.

Sean Ray misfired Larkin's second spot-kick before Glen McCabe's fine effort gave Dhúlaigh a 2-0 advantage.

Larkin's Peter Hopkins, Adam Kelly and Darren Powell scored their subsequent penalties. However, Shane Walsh and Kevin Darling sealed the Cup win with precision penalties.

Some of Larkin's best chances of the game fell to Hopkins.

Dhúlaigh had to wait until extra-time for their best spell of the game, with McCabe and Ryan Scully seeing their more than respectable efforts cleared off the line.
