Gypsies cursed by former stars

Chris Fagan and Killian Brennan enjoyed spells at Dalymount Park but their goals (two from Fagan) brought Bohs crashing back to earth following last week's shock win over Dundalk, and the Saints know that, barring a disaster at home to Limerick on Friday, they will go into the mid-season break as a top-four side.

With so many ex-Bohs players (five) in the Saints side, a one-time Bohemians man was bound to have an impact on this game and when the Saints did take the lead on 22 minutes, it was a move started and finished by ex-Bohs players. Aaron Greene created space out on the left to whip in a cross for Fagan, and the striker showed remarkable poise and skill to control the ball under pressure and flick a shot beyond keeper Dean Delany, Fagan's first goal in almost three months.

Bohs had struggled to get a foothold in the game but they did manage to draw level in the 33rd minute, Derek Prendergast bustling his way through a pack of bodies to get his head to Lorcan Fitzgerald's corner kick, the second goal of the season from defender Prendergast.

But the Saints seemed to find the extra something they needed at the start of the second half and with 20 minutes to go, they had the win wrapped up.

Six minutes into the second half, the home side regained the lead. Brennan lofted in a corner kick which was met by left back Ian Bermingham and while his shot was goal-bound and likely to go in anyway, Fagan got a touch to make sure.

Brennan got the third, sending a superb free-kick right past the grasp of Delany. Pats earned a second straight win, the Saints now eyeing three in a row at home to bottom side Limerick on Friday while Bohs dust themselves down for a duel with Shamrock Rovers at Dalymount Park, also on Friday night.
