New Year's Eve: A time for staying in, panicking about what January has in store, or heading out for a final seasonal hurrah? Definitely the latter, we think.

With this in mind, we've compiled some of the hottest treats in town this December 31, from rollicking, musical throw-downs to suave and sophisticated gala events. So, follow our guide to the ultimate New Year's Eve party in Dublin and you'll be on your way to ringing in 2015 in style...

New Year's Festival Dublin

A new, 3-day city-wide arts and culture festival to celebrate the New Year in Dublin? That'll do nicely.

And wait until you see what they have in store for us, from exciting music trails (Le Galaxie play Meeting House Square on the 31st) and a delicious, artisan food village at Barnardo's Square on Dame Street, to the annual Procession of Light around town on New Year's Eve and the appropriately-titled Resolution Day on the 1st (it involves a 2.5km 'fun run' on the Docklands, and a fitness workshop… we might need that).

3 Countdown Concert

A gig so big, it deserves its own mention (even if it is part of the NYF bill). The ginormous, live music extravaganza at College Green features the sublime James Vincent McMorrow, trad ensemble The Dublin Legends, Dingle pop-rock outfit Walking on Cars and Cavan blues trio The Whereabouts.

All eyes will be on the headliners, though, with chart-topping Swords quartet Kodaline bringing the noise in front of their biggest home crowd yet. The party kicks off at 8pm. Alas, tickets are sold out - beg, borrow or steal, folks.

Mix Tape NYE Party 2014

Rock on down to Vicar Street this December 31st where some of Ireland's greatest musicians (including Camille O'Sullivan, Lisa Hannigan and Declan O'Rourke, above) will be dipping in and out of each other's catalogues as well as throwing out the odd classic party tune along the way.

Doors: 8pm. Tickets: €35. www.turningpirate.com / www.aikenpromotions.com

The Christ Church Cathedral New Year's Eve Gala Concert

Ah, the ringing of the bells at Christ Church - you don't get any more traditional than this. The always reliable Dublin Gospel Choir will provide the tunes from 9pm, followed by a post-concert champagne reception in the Crypt.

You had better wrap up warm for the main event though, when punters will be ushered into the grounds of the Cathedral for the big countdown.

Ringing Master Leslie Taylor might stay inside, though. Because, you know, someone has to work those bells…

Tickets: €50. www.christchurchcathedral.ie

RTE Concert Orchestra New Year's Eve Gala at the National Concert Hall

Everything you need to know is in the title. Expect a Big Band, too.

Oh, and the orchestra will be joined by Grammy award-winning conductor Vince Mendoza and Dutch pop singer Trijntje Oosterhuis (left) with the ensemble celebrating the work of the great Burt Bacharach.

There's a complimentary glass of champers for everyone in the audience. The show starts at 10pm.

Tickets: €31.50 - €69.50. www.nch.ie

The Minutes at the Workman's Club

With a storming second album under their belts - the fantastic Live Well, Change Often - why not kick off 2015 with the hardest-working rock 'n' roll trio in town? Support on the night comes from Leaders of Men and Aoife Underwater. It might get loud. From 8pm.

Tickets: €18. www.theworkmansclub.com

Pirates in the Kingdom of Enchantasia

Family-friendly theatre fun at the Smock Alley Theatre in an adventurous tale that involves pirates (one of 'em is called Captain Swashbuckle), palaces, princesses, fairies, witches and wizards.

The Ofegus Theatre Company production is an afternoon event too, kicking off at 2.30pm. Perfect for the little ones.

Tickets: €12.50 / €10 child / €50 family. www.smockalley.com
