For those ringing in the New Year at Dublin’s College for the Three Countdown Concert, or anyone celebrating New Year’s Eve outdoors, weather forecasters have some good news.
While rain will move eastwards across the country today, the skies are expected to dry out by midnight.
“There’ll be some rain spreading across the country on the east and south coasts later this evening,” a spokesperson said.
“By midnight, most of the country should be dry.”
“There might be just a few spots of rain on the south and east coast. There’ll be very patchy rain hugging those coasts.”
Tonight’s temperatures will range from six to ten degrees.
Throughout the night, another band of rain – heavy at times - will move into parts of the west and northwest. The rain will be heavy at times.
“It’ll be dry for much of the night. There’ll be more rain on the north and west coast moving into Thursday morning.”
New Year's Day will be another mild, breezy day with yet more spells of rain.
The rain will be quite heavy in western coastal counties and parts of the north with some local spot flooding.
Temperatures will range from 11 to 14 degrees.
