girlfriend took hammer to man's van, court told
THIS is the woman accused of smashing up the windows in her boyfriend's van after an argument.
Wendy Costello (37) allegedly caused €500 damage to the car with a claw hammer.
Judge David McHugh ordered the disclosure of statements and adjourned the matter to a date in September.
The accused, with an address at Carton Way in Ballymun, appeared before Blanchardstown District Court charged with criminal damage, possession of a claw hammer and producing a claw hammer during the course of a fight.
The alleged incident took place at Kippure Park in Finglas on May 18 last.
The court heard the DPP has directed summary disposal of the matters in the District Court.
Outlining the allegation for jurisdiction purposes, Sergeant Mary Doherty alleged that following an argument with her boyfriend Ms Costello went outside onto the green with a claw hammer and damaged his vehicle.
Sgt Doherty said it is alleged that Ms Costello smashed the windows of his van.
The sergeant claimed the claw hammer was then removed from Ms Costello.
It is alleged that the damage to the Toyota Hiace was €500.
Judge David McHugh said he would accept jurisdiction of the charges, meaning the matters will remain in the District Court where the penalties are less severe.
Ms Costello has no yet entered a plea to the charges.
