Gilroy waits for French connection

Members of the team, including Ger Brennan and Kevin Nolan, have publicly pleaded with the St Vincent's clubman to stay at the helm in order to aim for further success, and he is now considering his options.

"There are people coming over from Paris next week and I will sit down and discuss things with them," Gilroy told the Evening Herald.

"They have been very good to me over the last three years, giving me the time off I needed. No decision has been made yet."

His right hand man, Mickey Whelan, announced last week that he would be stepping down but Gilroy indicated that there was nothing definite in his former club manager's plans.

"Mickey made a few comments but I think that we will all sit down collectively and decide what we are going to do," he explained.

"But he owes nobody anything and he has been a great servant to Gaelic football. If he did decide to go we would respect that."
