Gerry ready to sing the Blues

Niall Scully

AT O'Toole Park on Sunday, the sound system had a wobble just as the National Anthem was about to be played before the Dublin v Kilkenny National League Division 1 camogie fixture. "Looks like I might have to sing it," said Gerry O'Sullivan.

Just then, the sound clicked into gear and Gerry was saved. It recalled a similar incident at the same venue many years ago when the great Mick Dunphy sang the anthem when the tape refused to work. Somebody quipped to Mick that his performance put Daniel O'Donnell in the shade. Mick's face lit up with that famous smile of his.

Kevin's joy of six

GOOD reports from the sixth annual Kevin's Easter Festival which took place on Good Friday at Dolphin Park. There was plenty of sparking hurling and camogie action, and Kevin's ran the show in their usual professional manner.

It's yellow peril!

BRIAN TALTY was on the regular Wednesday night Dublin GAA show on Dublin City FM (103.2) that runs from 7pm to 8pm. "I don't want to be seen as somebody who gives out about referees," offered Talts. People moved closer to the radio. After all, it was the season of Lent. "But it's just crazy the number of yellow cards that are being shown these days. I'm sure there are many ex-players that are glad that there were no yellow cards when they were playing."

Egan was genius

THE great Dublin teams of the '70s era rated John Egan so highly. He was the pure Kerry footballing artist.

His genius made the clock tick. In Kerry, he was regarded as a master-craftsman. And that says it all.
