George: Nacarat needs finishing touch

Tom George is working hard to find a reason why Nacarat weakened so rapidly into fourth in Saturday's William Hill King George VI Chase at Kempton.

The front-running grey, winner of the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby, looked like being involved in the finish before the turn for home but was eventually beaten by 24 lengths by impressive winner Long Run.

Future

While delighted with his 10-year-old's performance, George hopes something can be done to ensure he finishes his races better in the future.

"He's come out of the race well and he's run another very gallant race," said the trainer.

"He's just not quite getting home at the moment, so we're going to look into that.

"He looked like the winner three out but then he was just treading water a bit at the end, so we're going to look into that slightly.

"We're looking for perfection somewhat, as he's still run a solid race.

"The ground was obviously slower than it was at Wetherby and it's looking like he's only getting home on better ground.

TRAVELLED

"But he jumped and travelled well in the softer ground on Saturday, so we'll see.

"There is no definite plan at the moment. He's entered in the Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham and he'll probably have an entry in the Racing Post Chase back at Kempton.

"But the first thing we want to do is see if we can make a bit of a difference that will help him finish his races better."
