A number of Irish people offered key assistance in the arrest of a Dutch murder suspect in Croatia.

Morgan Schreurs (inset) was arrested by Croatian police after gardai contacted them with information about the fugitive, who had been the subject of an Interpol appeal.

Members of the public gave information to gardai after an appeal for help in Irish newspapers and broadcast media.

Schreurs is accused of killing a woman he met in a bar in Brussels in November 1999. She was found dead in her home in Belgium the next day.

The fugitive was on the Most Wanted list of Interpol, and gardai last month were requested to seek help from the Irish public, as he was believed to have moved to Ireland.

As a result of media coverage earlier this month, a number of people came forward last week to confirm the suspect had lived in Ireland for several years but had moved to Croatia.

Gardai liaised with their Croatian counterparts, who arrested him.
