Gay books beat libraries ban

Two children's books dealing with gay subjects will be restored to Singapore's public libraries.

Information Minister Yaacob Ibrahim had said he supported the National Library Board's decision to pulp three books deemed to have inappropriate content, but many people objected.

He stood by the decision to remove the books from the children's section of the libraries, but said he instructed librarians to place them in their adult sections.

Whishaw to be voice of bear

Ben Whishaw is replacing Colin Firth as the voice of Paddington Bear in the upcoming film.

The Bond actor is taking over after The King's Speech star quit last month, admitting he was having trouble finding the voice of the Peruvian bear.

Whishaw (33) said he was asked to audition "out of the blue".

"I resisted because I had a bad experience doing this kind of work in the past and I thought I was no good at it, but I was persuaded to go, grudgingly," he said.
