A TALENTED GAA star has been killed following an accident at a former Quinn Group factory.

Brian Og Maguire (24) died after being hit on the head with a steel cable.

The Fermanagh footballer was working on the factory floor of the former Quinn cement plant in Derrylin when the accident occurred yesterday morning.

The tragedy has been compounded by the news that the young man had been looking forward to attending the birth of his sister's child -- due yesterday.

A Fermanagh GAA statement said the county committee, senior football management and players were "shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden death of our county senior player Brian Og Maguire due to an accident at his work.

"We extend our sympathy to Brian Og's parents Brian and Eileen, sisters Roisin and Eimear, his entire family circle and the members of his club Lisnaskea Emmetts at this most difficult time."

DUP MLA Arlene Foster said the death had shocked the community.

"My sympathies go out to the family of Mr Maguire who has died in an accident. This tragic death will be felt by a great many people across the county," she said.
