'Force' gone for Saoirse and her Star Wars hopes

THE 'Force' is gone in this one. Saoirse Ronan's dreams of wielding a lightsaber and hanging out with hordes of Ewoks and Wookiees are over.

The young star auditioned for a part in JJ Abrams' hotly anticipated Star Wars film earlier this year, but unfortunately missed out on the role.

"I don't have 'Star Wars', I don't have the role," she said. "I just shouldn't have said anything. I just auditioned for it, like everyone else did."

After honing her fight skills in films such as The Host and Hanna, she could have easily been the next Princess Leia or Padme Amidala.

She may have missed out on the role but at least Saoirse enjoyed the audition process.

"To pretend that you have a lightsaber in a scene is always very exciting," she said.

Last week, Disney producers announced they would be coming to Dublin on November 24 and 25 to cast a lead female and male role in a "major Hollywood film".
