Fireman settles his stress case

Eugene Carey, who was the station officer of Ballina Fire Station, claimed Mayo County Council failed to act on complaints made by him and failed to have in place an adequate anti-bullying programme.

Mayo County Council contended the action was statute barred and denied all the claims. When the case was called before Ms Justice Iseult O'Malley yesterday she was told it had been settled and could be struck out.

Seventeen die in bus plunge

Seventeen people were killed and three were left seriously injured when a long-distance bus overturned and plunged down a deep ravine in China.

The accident occurred early today and 45 people were on the bus, which was heading from the eastern Jiangsu province to the coastal city of Xiamen in Fujian province. It overturned in Fujian's Ningde city.

Asia has most millionaires

Asia's millionaires outnumbered North America's for the first time last year as the world's wealthy saw their fortunes decline amid turbulent financial markets, a new survey says.

The report by Capgemini and Royal Bank of Canada found the Asia-Pacific region was home to 3.37 million people who have at least $1m (¤780,000) to invest. That's up 1.6pc from the year before.

Arrest warrant for dinosaur

One of the more unusual arrest warrants in US history was issued when a federal judge authorised the Department of Homeland Security to seize a dinosaur from an art storage company in New York.

There's no need for handcuffs though -- it's been dead for 70 million years.

US District Judge Kevin Castel found there was "probable cause to believe" that the nearly complete Tyrannosaurus bataar skeleton is subject to forfeiture. It will eventually be returned to Mongolia.
