Yes, I am dating 1D's Niall, reveals US starlet Demi

IT has been one of the worst-kept secrets in pop but US X Factor judge Demi Lovato has finally confirmed she and Niall Horan of One Direction are dating.

It is the first time that either one of the high-profile couple has confirmed they are involved in a romance -- although it is of the long distance variety.

To the sounds of breaking teen hearts everywhere, Lovato has confirmed that she is "loosely dating" the Mullingar singer.

The 20-year-old Skyscraper singer said 19-year-old Niall had a lot of great qualities but it was his ability to listen and his quick wit that appeals the most to her.

"He has a lot of great qualities," she said.

"He is an amazing listener and makes me laugh a lot, two of the main qualities I look for."

Last week, Niall's brother Greg Horan told The Herald that Niall needs a woman who can hold her own in a conversation and have a laugh.

And it looks like Lovato may be that lady.

"He knows I have a little crush on him," she said.

"We enjoy having dinner when we get the chance. We speak and message all the time."

The two often spend hours chatting on Skype but Lovato says she wants a more than a phone-in relationship.

"I don't want a relationship over Skype; we are both in a place where we feel zero pressure to rush," she said.

"We share the philosophy that the right one is worth waiting for."

1D fans have been speculating over the pair's relationship status for months.

The two have been shamelessly flirting over Twitter and Niall stated that he thought Demi was "a beautiful girl" during an interview on a US chat show.

But up to now the pair had been keen to play down any suggestion of a romance with Demi previously saying: "There is nothing going on. Niall is just my friend."

However, things got serious when the two went on their first 'official date' after the MTV VMA awards.

Demi and Niall were seen chatting and partying at the event and grabbed a bite to eat at a Mexican restaurant afterwards.

Demi tweeted at the time that it had been "an amazing night."
