FORMER popstar Hazel Kaneswaran has shunned the limelight for a quiet family life, but there is one member of her clan who she rarely sees – chart-topping boyband star Siva.
Blanchardstown native Siva (24) enjoys a jet-set lifestyle with The Wanted.
Older sister Hazel (35) says the family would love to spend more time with the singer.
"I haven't seen Siva in nearly 18 months, nobody has seen him," Hazel said.
"He is in the States all the time.
"However, he's going to come home in June to do a gig in Cork and he's going to see my mum then," she says
Hazel herself was tipped for stardom when she got down to the final 10 on Popstars The Rivals in 2002, the show on which Girls Aloud was made, while pregnant with her first child.
But the mum of four boys was asked to leave the show after ITV bosses discovered she was 10 days over the age-limit and Kimberley Walsh was drafted in as her replacement. But Hazel says things couldn't have worked out better for her.
She gets to raise her family, while living the pop star life vicariously through Siva.
She helped her mother out by looking after her six younger brothers when her dad died suddenly and this brought her family closer.
"We're a very close family and I have a special bond with the twins, Siva and Kumar, because I was 12 when they were born, so I changed their nappies. It's lovely to see him going on – finally one of us is holding the torch."
Before joining The Wanted, Siva was a model alongside brother Kumar, and Hazel believes that Siva's twin also has what it takes to break the music scene.
"Kumar is in London reading psychology. But he's a really good singer as well, so you never know."
While the model-turned-singer is a hit with his female fans, Siva is happily loved up with his shoe designer girlfriend, Nareesha McCaffrey, and has said he will marry her.
"He's only 24, he's still young, so you never know what will happen down the road," said Hazel.
