Watch out Kathryn - Eoghan is ready to branch out and take on new presenting roles at RTE

VIEWERS have grown accustomed to seeing him on The Voice of Ireland, but TV host Eoghan McDermott is stepping out of Kathryn Thomas’ shadow to front his own RTE show.

With the latest season of the singing competition now off air, the 29-year-old is looking to pastures new and is set to front an up-coming science-based series called Drunk, which explores what happens to people when they drink alcohol.

It is the first time that London- based Eoghan (inset) will take on a solo project for RTE and the Dubliner told

“Ireland has a complex relationship with alcohol so I think a programme like this could do very well,” he said.

“The subject is cool and even though it will raise eyebrows, it has the potential to do make an impact.”

Eoghan, who is back in Dublin this weekend to watch pal Niall Horan perform with One Direction, said that he’s also eager to show another side of his personality — and insisted he’s “not just the joker”.

“The Voice of Ireland is very breezy and light obviously and this is something completely different, but I am looking forward to it to be honest. I do radio in the UK and we make it quite diverse, so we cover very serious topics, and it does well.

“But I’ve never really done that or gone down that route here — and I’d like to change that,” he said.

VERSATILITY

Although he’s keen to branch out and show his versatility on the small screen, Eoghan wants to continue working alongside his pal Kathryn (right) on The Voice of Ireland for seasons to come.

“I absolutely love The Voice and I think you can dip in and out of various formats or styles,” he said.

“Presenters like Dermot O’Leary do that well — Dermot is the champion of versatility in broadcasting in my view. I’d like to do that.”

Drunk, which will air on RTE Two later this year, is being made by Independent Pictures.

Producers are now on the hunt for people to take part.
