Things are finally looking up for Total Xposure reject Sharon Clancy.
Despite losing out on a place on the TV3 showbiz news show, Sharon packed her bags and headed for the bright lights of London. And it is proving to be quite an inspired move, as she is now carving out a successful career there.
The former TV3 wannabe said that she was disappointed that she didn't secure the job presenting on Xpose but now fronts a UTV game show and starred in BBC drama Doctors.
Sharon (32) had been involved in a number of musicals in the West End but decided to come home to try out her luck in the industry here last year.
"When I came back to try out for Total Xposure, I thought, 'This is so perfect, I fit in with all of the girls and it would be a phenomenal job,'" she said.
"But I think it was hard to predict the voting.
"I was fully committed to moving home. I was done with London and was set to settle back in Ireland," she said.
However, Sharon, originally from Wexford, was pipped to the post by Sean Munsanje.
"After Total Xposure, I was in Ireland, trying to break into the industry. I knocked on all of the doors but I couldn't get an agent and even tried to get into panto," she said.
"Then one weekend I was helping a friend move over to London and my English phone rang offering me work. So I thought, 'Do I stay on the dole in Ireland and try to ride the wave or take the work in London?'"
Now the actress has appeared in an episode of BBC's Doctors and also fronts UTV's interactive game show Brain Box.
"Doctors went really well and it's open ended. I played a primary school teacher who was in an Abba tribute band. It was a really big storyline, a love triangle between myself and two other characters. I loved it, it was a great part."
Sharon said that she hopes the role will open the door to more roles in programmes like Holby City or Emmerdale.
"It's a kind of a mix. I've been presenting TV for four years and I really want to do TV in the long run," she said.
"I think it was meant to be, I was meant to come back to London. What's right won't go past you."
She said that she is currently enjoying the single life in London but said that she would love to return home to settle down.
