DIAMONDS are a girl's best friend – but not when it comes to Sinead Kennedy.
After eight years together, the RTE television host and her Naval Service captain partner Conor Kirwan are set to make a trip down the aisle.
But the 30-year-old has broken with tradition, opting for a blue gemstone instead of a flashy diamond engagement ring.
"I wouldn't be into diamonds – I've no interest and I like a bit of colour," she told the Herald.
"I love the colour of my ring. I went for tanzanite. You've got to go big with it too – go big or go home!"
Cork woman Kennedy, who first met Kirwan in 2005, she has planned her big day – the location of which she's keeping a secret – around the band that will play at the couple's reception.
She said: "We booked the entire wedding based on the band's availability.
"We've got Spring Break. They're so good, so at least we're guaranteed a good, fun night.
"The wedding is in autumn and it's all done. We knew what we wanted venue-wise, so we're organised."
Kennedy has even got her dress in the wardrobe.
She said: "I don't know if I'm a traditional bride, I'm probably somewhere in the middle. I didn't go for the big flouncy meringue dress, but I did actually try one on – I liked it and thought, 'Wow, I look really small in this', but that's not what I went with in the end.
"I LIKE TO THINK I'M QUITE ROCK-CHIC IN STYLE, BUT MY FIANCE TOLD ME THAT IF I WORE BLACK HE'D TURN AND WALK THE OTHER WAY.
"I don't look good in white. I was very plain in that regard in the finish of the dress."
Although most of the planning is done, Kennedy admitted that she would have happily let her other half plan their wedding – like in her favourite TV show, Don't Tell The Bride.
She said: "I've always loved Don't Tell The Bride and I would trust my man to plan the wedding.
"He knows the rules, he knows what I like and don't like, or what kind of dress I'd go for."
