In this new series, historian Dominic Sandbrook goes back 40 years to present a fresh look at the decade in Britain. He begins with the years 1970 to 1972, from the housing boom to the arrival of Ugandan Asians seeking shelter from Idi Amin to the miners' strike. He also touches on the political battle over Europe, the growth of package holidays, the popularity of Marc Bolan and David Bowie, and how the latter's androgynous persona inspired a new type of male fashion.
