Ryan Tubridy and Aoibhinn Ni Shuilleabhain have split up.

The couple announced they have gone their separate ways in a statement released this evening.

Late Late Show host Ryan (41), who has two daughters from his previous marriage to RTE producer Ann Marie Power, and broadcaster and scientist Aoibheann (31) were together for four years.

However, they largely kept their relationship out of the limelight. were only occasionally pictured together and rarely mentioned their relationship in interviews.

A statement issued by Noel Kelly, whose company NK Management acts as representation for the couple, confirmed the split and said they would remain friends.

"Aoibhinn and Ryan are no longer together," the statement read.

"They will remain friends and ask for privacy at this time. There will be no further comment on this personal matter."

Mayo native Aoibhinn first came to public prominence when she was crowned Rose of Tralee.

Since then, talented Aoibhinn has become a familiar face to TV fans, thanks to fronting popular series 'The Science Squad' as well as a travel series.

All the while, she has continued teaching as well as researching as part of the School of Mathematical Sciences in UCD.

Aoibhinn and Ryan Tubridy first started dating in 2009 after he interviewed her for his Saturday night chat show. The loved up pair were first snapped together strolling hand in hand in Powerscourt Gardens.

The pair split briefly in 2010 - but soon got back together and their relationship seemingly went from strength to strength.

Last Christmas, the pair bought a house together in Monkstown, South Dublin.

But earlier this year, Tubridy, who hosts a daily morning programme on 2FM, said he wouldn't rule out a move to the UK to further his career.

He has often filled in for Graham Norton on the BBC.
