RTE hit Pure Mule is back after three years

Award-winning series Pure Mule is to return to screens this autumn after a three-year gap.

New faces and some of the original cast will be featured in the gritty RTE drama of life in a small Co Offaly town.

Pure Mule was nominated for seven IFTAs and won five when it was screened in 2005 and 2006. Filming is due to begin later this month in Banagher, Birr and Tullamore.

The show put young actors like Charlene McKenna on the map.

She described the series as a realistic portrayal of life in rural Ireland. "It's a very dark show but it has a fun side too."
