Rock DJ Paddy ready to keep on rollin'

FORGET full-time radio, it is all about the school of rock for presenter Paddy McKenna (below).

The Weekenders host said that he is staying put in his Saturday and Sunday slot on 2FM. And that suits his music ambitions.

Paddy and his band Storyfold have just finished recording their new EP, to be released this March.

"It's going to be a busy year with the band so, obviously working the weekends, gives me the opportunity to do that," Paddy told the Diary.

Describing the music as "rock with a pop edge," Paddy said most of his time during the week has been taken up with this passion.

"It sounds amazing and the EP will be out in March so I am really excited about that. We are independent so it is our own output, but we have lots of gigs booked during the summer. The best way now is to do it yourself because you can self release, you can book your studio time and all that stuff.

"So I guess I know a good bit about the industry from working on the radio side of things," he added.

Paddy has been at 2FM for three years and presents Weekenders with co-host Ruth Scott, which airs every Saturday and Sunday.

Away from music, Paddy is enjoying the first year of marriage with wife Joanne O'Brien. "Married life is great," he said.
