Richard Madeley has spoken of plans to front a book club with wife Judy Finnigan.
The presenter said "advanced talks" had been taking place after they were approached by publishers to take part in a project.
However Channel 4, which has been showing a revamped version of the massively popular book club which the couple previously presented, said it had not been in discussions with the couple.
Madeley, who has been the subject of speculation as a possible replacement for Adrian Chiles on The One Show, told the TV Times: "This is very much a joint project.
"People's perception is still that if we say this is a good book, then it is.
"People believe it because we don't say it lightly."
The original Book Club was created on Richard and Judy and went on to be a phenomenal success, seen as being responsible for huge sales surges.
The couple took the Book Club with them from Channel 4 to digital channel Watch, but they quit their show by mutual agreement last year after falling viewing figures.
That club has since been revamped into The TV Book Club, with celebrity reviewers including Jo Brand and Gok Wan.
Madeley recently commented that his wife, who has health problems, had "no interest in going back into television".
Channel 4 said it had not been in discussions with Richard and Judy.
A "summer read" series is due to take place later this year on More4 and Channel 4 with a mix of presenters.
