Operation Transformation ratings swell as final figures are revealed

Operation Transformation has been eaten up by Irish viewers, with half a million tuning in to the RTE reality diet show.

TV fans are gobbling up the weekly installments of Gerry Ryan's programme, which finishes this evening and sees the five team leaders collectively shed more than 10 a half stone.

The broadcaster didn't have to worry about slim pickings when it came to the audience figures, with the show's site getting more than three million hits.

"We are delighted that Operation Transformation has once again proven to be so successful across all RTE media platforms," said a spokesperson.

"It is clearly an initiative which has had a big impact with the public."

With the finish line finally in sight for the Operation Transformation leaders and groups, the final figures reveal a combined overall weight loss of an incredible 71 stone and five pounds.

Thanks to a healthy regime and some tough workouts, the five leaders surpassed their original targets.

TV viewers will this evening see the results of all that hard work in the show's grand finale.

Leaders Ciara Dunne, Connor O'Connor, Penny Dwyer, Amanda Casey and Anna Naughton will show off their new figures in a catwalk show styled by RTE's Darren Kennedy.

Presenter Gerry Ryan said the programme inspired thousands of people to take a new look at their own lifestyles and make the proper changes.

"That's the real legacy and the highest tribute to the overall initiative. Fair play to each of them," he said.

Meanwhile, Clondalkin nurse Ciara Dunne (28) has revealed how taking part in the RTE show has inspired her to return to her childhood passion of performing.

She explained how she has been given the confidence to take to the stage again in a production at the Millbank Theatre in Rush after shedding nearly two stone.

"That has just changed everything for me. I'm so much more positive and confident. Before, I would have just sat there on the couch thinking 'I would love to do something like that' whereas now I'm doing it," she said.
