New show is fun but it's no loose women - Blathnaid

RTE presenter Blathnaid Ni Chofaigh says her new show will be "irreverent" but a world away from Loose Women.

The fiery redhead will front the new programme -- called Today -- with Dragons' Den star Norah Casey on Fridays.

Blathnaid (41) is back on the daytime TV schedule after the Afternoon Show wound up in 2009.

And she said she is raring to get back to the chat show format after filming a soap for TG4.

"I'm delighted about it. It suits me down to the ground," she told the Herald.

Blathnaid said that the programme will be a fresh look at light-hearted stories but will not be afraid to take on any heavy issues.

But although it is being billed as a Loose Women-style show, Blathnaid said she doesn't like labels.

"I don't like saying that it is Loose Women, I don't like to say one programme is like another.

"But there is no doubt about it, there is a great sense of irreverence.

"We will discuss everything and anything. It will be fun and different."

The RTE star said that she was also looking forward to working with co-host Norah Casey, publisher behind the titles Irish Tatler, Woman's Way and Food and Wine.

"We don't agree on everything, but that is a good a thing as well, it makes for good TV."

The Today show, based in Cork, starts on November 5, and will be presented by Daithi O Se and Maura Derrane from Monday to Thursday.
