HE MAY have the perfect face for radio, but unlikely RTE poster boy Marty Morrissey has launched a campaign to land the country's top television title.
The RTE sports broadcaster has pulled out all the stops when it comes to taking the title of Favourite Sports Broadcaster at this weekend's Walkers TV Now Awards, by having his own campaign posters designed.
The Cork-born presenter faces an uphill struggle to land the gong, up against frontrunners Bill O'Herlihy and Des Cahill.
The GAA presenter also faces stiff competition from fellow sports presenters including Matt Cooper, Sinead Kissane and Joanne Cantwell on Saturday night, told how he had the posters drawn up by the station's graphic department for a joke.
However Marty admits he was so impressed with their efforts that he decided to use the posters, hanging a number of them at the Donnybrook-based studios in a bid to persuade his colleagues to log their vote for him online.
Also featured on the posters are Ballydung brothers Podge and Rodge, with the gruesome twosome pictured playing with a football.
This year marks the first time the UCC graduate has been nominated for an award at the glitzy bash and says he's looking forward to donning his tuxedo for the high-profile bash.
"It's my very first time to be nominated or to win an award and I'm very excited," he told the Herald. "I really do think it's a great honour to be nominated beside such talented presenters.
"There's some serious opposition with the likes of Des Cahill and Bill Herlihy in there so I wouldn't be too confident about my chances.
"The posters are just a bit of a laugh really. If they get me a few extra votes it will be a bonus. More than anything they've resulted in lots of old friends contacting me and slagging me."
TV stars will turn on the style for the awards ceremony, presented by Xpose's Glenda Gilson and VIP magazine boss, Michael O'Doherty.
