The New Year is off to an explosive start in Carrigstown with a devastating effect on at least one character.
The Fair City love triangle involving Yvonne, Carol and Dan has reached new heights as the two women finally square up to each other.
Aisling O'Neill, who plays Carol, said that the two former friends are involved in a face off after it's revealed they have both been seeing Dan. And Robbie, who was roped in by Carol to reek revenge, locks the trio into the basement of The Station Bar.
"The story is interwoven with so many twists and turns, that it has really kept us on our toes," said Aisling.
Ciara O'Callaghan, who plays Yvonne Doyle, said that it is Carol's betrayal that hurts her the most.
"Carol went through so much with her during the recent rape and the trial.
"They have become such good friends and Yvonne hasn't had many good friends. She valued that friendship so she really does believe it is the ultimate betrayal," she said.
Aisling said that the scenes are intense because the two women have such strong personalities.
"I think despite their history together, they recognise something of themselves in each other," Aisling said.
Ciara added: "The scenes with myself and Aisling in the cellar are brilliant. We are at loggerheads but also Yvonne does end up helping Carol".
"Once Christmas is over, Dan says he's leaving, and Carol and Yvonne are at each other's throats. Robbie has had enough and locks them in the basement - and all hell breaks loose, with devastating consequences for one character, which causes another character to leave," Ciara said.
"It's always great to film those big one-hour episodes," she added.
