Dublin mum Michelle shows she's the One to watch on X Factor

IRISH X Factor hopeful Michelle Barrett proves she's the Sweetest Thing as she pays tribute to U2 at Bootcamp tonight.

Mum-of-four Michelle -- who has wowed audiences with her show-stopping voice in Glasgow -- will take on legendary U2 song One in tonight's episode of the hit show.

"We got to pick our own song to sing and I knew it'd be One for me," the 32-year-old told the Herald.

"I've always loved that song and was very proud to sing it for the judges.

"I went the Mary J Blige route and I actually cried afterwards, it was an amazing experience," Michelle revealed.

The Ballyfermot native is one of 187 contestants set take to on the gruelling challenge of Bootcamp.

Set to perform for the celebrity judges in this weekend's double bill, the TV3 series moves on to the next stage of the contest and nerves are going to soar.

In what is said to be the most dramatic of the series yet, this year's Bootcamp sees everyone put into groups in an effort to whittle down the list to 32 -- and sort the pros from the amateurs.

"It was very intense and you're exhausted -- but I genuinely loved it, the excitement kept me going," the Leixlip-based crooner said.

"It's definitely a learning curve when you're thrust into a group with people you don't know -- I have to admit I was very nervous.

"But I did enjoy it and it was great to get to know the UK contestants -- there are some funny characters."

Michelle is one of three Irish hopefuls tipped to make it through to judges' houses and the bubbly blonde admitted that she and Dublin star Melanie McCabe have formed a special bond since meeting on the series.

"Myself and Melanie would be very close, she's a gorgeous girl," said Michelle.

Rumours have been flying that the Bootcampers got a little of hand, after Mayo-man Louis Walsh and the new judges threw them a Welcome To Bootcamp party at a posh hotel.

But the petite singer has insisted that the wild 'shenanigans' were blown way out of proportion:

"Yeah, some people had a couple of drinks, but nothing like it was made out to be, I thought that was hilarious when I read it."
