Cheryl Cole to speak about Ashley split on Jonathan Ross chat show

Cheryl Cole is poised to give a tell-all interview to Jonathan Ross about her impending divorce from footballer husband Ashley.

The Girls Aloud singer and X Factor judge is booked to appear on BBC One's Friday Night With Jonathan Ross on March 12.

In 2008, she chose Ross's show to break her silence on Ashley's reported one-night stand with a hairdresser.

She had been seen without her wedding ring, but wore it for the TV interview and said: "I was tempted to put it back on - in his head."

Less than two years later, reports of other alleged affairs led Cole to announce her separation from the Chelsea and England star.

This is how the romance unfolded:

2002: Cheryl Tweedy becomes a member of pop group Girls Aloud after winning TV talent show Popstars: The Rivals.

2003: Tweedy's career is almost derailed when she is convicted of assaulting a nightclub toilet attendant who asked her to pay for a lollipop. She blames her upbringing on a Newcastle council estate: "That's what we were taught on the estate - you have to defend yourself."

2004: Cheryl meets Ashley Cole when they move into the same apartment block in Friern Barnet, north London. His flat is the scene of Ashley's alleged one-night stand with a hairdresser four years later.

June 2005: Ashley proposes during a camel ride in Dubai. "Ashley went down on one knee. He's a gentleman," says a delirious Cheryl.

June 2006: Cheryl attends the World Cup in Germany but stresses she is definitely not a WAG. "It really annoys me when people try to call me a footballer's wife. Footballers' wives have no careers and live off their husbands' money."

July 2006: The couple marry at Wrotham Park in Hertfordshire, pocketing £1m (€1.1m) by selling the exclusive picture rights to a celebrity magazine. She wears a Roberto Cavalli dress worth a reported £110,000 (€125,000). He wears a satin suit.

September 2006: Ashley publishes his autobiography, My Defence, in which he claims the trauma of being offered only £55,000 (€62,000) a week by his then club, Arsenal, almost caused him to crash his £115,000 (€130,000) Bentley.

November 2007: Cheryl has "Mrs C" tattooed on her neck. She might be regretting that now.

January 2008: Aimee Walton, a 22-year-old hairdresser from South London, claims a drunken Cole picked her up in a London club and took her back to his flat for sex. Walton says that on the drive there "he just threw up everywhere. My friend was going mad but he just smiled and said to me, 'She should be privileged Ashley Cole was sick in her car'."

June 2008: Cheryl is unveiled as the new X Factor judge, a role which sees her fast become a national treasure.

November 2008: Ashley launchs a High Court privacy case against the newspaper group that printed stories of his alleged infidelities, claiming they breached his right to a private life.

January 2009: Cheryl tells Vogue that the Aimee Walton episode was "horrendous" but says she's sticking by her husband because he's such a lovely person. "Look, Ashley's young, and he's got a young mentality for his age anyway. He's learning. He has a beautiful soul and he's a really nice guy."

November 2009: Following reports that the marriage is in trouble, Cheryl posts a picture on Twitter in which she flashes her £160,000 (€181,000) wedding ring. The caption says: "3 Words. Diamonds Are Forever." By happy coincidence, 3 Words is the name of Cheryl's recently released solo album.

February 12 2010: Sonia Wild, a topless model, shares a semi-naked photograph of Ashley, which was sent to her mobile phone. He admits taking it but says he had given the phone to a friend and did not send the picture. "I can't believe that I gave a phone away that still had stuff on its memory. I thought I had deleted it," he explains to The Sun.

February 16: Cheryl performs at the Brit Awards without her wedding ring, fuelling speculation that a separation is imminent.

February 17: Cheryl flies to LA where she is "comforted" by Derek Hough, a dancer who has appeared in one of her videos.

February 21: Ann Corbitt, an American local government worker, claims she had sex with the footballer in a hotel during Chelsea's pre-season tour in Seattle last July.

February 23: Cheryl's spokesman announces her separation. On Twitter.
