Blathnaid reckons she can manage stint as Bainisteoir

RTE star Blathnaid Ni Chofaigh is set to add to her CV this month when she takes part in reality series Celebrity Bainisteoir.

The Herald can reveal how the mum of four is due to take to the dugout in the coming weeks to offer direction to Nobber intermediate footballers, who are based in her home county of Meath.

Blathnaid will go head to head with a host of other well known names and faces including ladies' man Breffny Morgan and Dragon's Den star Gavin Duffy, who will manage Roche Emmet's in Dundalk.

Today FM's Mairead Farrell has also signed up to look after a team in Dublin.

This latest stint on the small screen will mark Blathnaid's first since her gig as a judge on the All Ireland Talent Show finished last March.

The flame-haired star quit her high profile job as co-anchor of the Afternoon Show last autumn, citing ill health as her reason for leaving.

Meanwhile Blathnaid's co-judge on the All Ireland Talent Show Daithi O Se left producers of Celebrity Bainisteoir disappointed when he had to turn down an opportunity to take part.

The Kerryman is said to have been keen to take on the challenge but had too many conflicting work commitments to take on a gruelling training schedule with his team.

"Unfortunately he just has too much on his plate at the moment," said a show source.

"He has a new TG4 show coming out, his Rose of Tralee duties, The All Ireland Talent Show and his job as a weather presenter to consider, so he just couldn't fit it in this time around," they added.

Talks are said to be still under way with a high-profile comedian, a politician and a well known actress for the football series.
