TELEVISION news anchor Bryan Dobson will take leave from the day job this weekend to highlight the fight against cancer.
The RTE news reader will take part in the Kells Pink Ribbon Walk organised by breast cancer survivor Carol Mallon tomorrow.
The 51-year-old will don his hiking boots in an effort to raise awareness of breast cancer, which affects more than 2,500 women in Ireland every year.
Mum-of-six Carol won her struggle with the cancer in 2004 and says that she may not be in this position were it not for her persistence seven years ago.
"I found a lump in September 2004 and got the all-clear. But I knew something was wrong and stayed with it.
"I went back six months later and was diagnosed with breast cancer. Had I not done that, there is every chance I wouldn't be here today talking about our walk on Saturday."
Now in its third year, the Kells Pink Ribbon Walk has raised up to €400,000 to date. All funds raised will go to Action Breast Cancer within the Irish Cancer Society, to help fund the National Cancer Freephone Helpline (1800 200 700).
You can still join the walk by registering online or downloading the forms at www.pinkribbonwalk.ie.
