Treatment of Cliff was 'appalling' - de Burgh

CHRIS de Burgh is the latest celeb to show support for singer Cliff Richard.

The Lady in Red hitmaker said that the treatment of Cliff by police in the UK was "utterly appalling".

The BBC captured the search of Cliff's Berkshire home by police investigating an alleged historic child abuse incident going back to 1985. Cliff denies the allegation.

"I have known Cliff for many years and always found him a genuine and compassionate man," de Burgh said.

"I hope the rumours are completely unfounded and think the way he was treated by the police and the press was appalling."

Chris was at the opening night of The Gate Theatre's production of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice along with his wife Diane.

"It's a classic romance with big and bold gestures of love and fantastic dresses," said The Gate director Michael Colgan.
