The Insider: Everyone loves pub quizzes

EVERYONE loves pub table quizzes; the banter is brilliant and everyone gets to showcase their general knowledge know-how.

Tomorrow, Travel Department and Clickandgo.com are hosting a table quiz in Donnybrook pub Kiely's to raise money for the Philippines Relief Fund through the Irish Red Cross. The quiz begins at 7pm sharp, tickets are €30 and include dinner. There will be top-notch prizes and live music. To get a table email info@traveldepartment.ie.

Like books and love film? The Lighthouse Cinema's book club could be right up your street.

Each month, the club picks a classic novel and chats about it and its film adaptations. This month it's Louisa May Alcott's masterpiece, Little Women.

On Monday 16, the cinema will screen the 1994 film starring Susan Sarandon, Winona Ryder and Christian Bale then there'll be chat about the film and the book.

American comedian Bill Burr will take to the stage at Vicar Street on Monday December 9.

The comedian, who had a part in Breaking Bad as one of Saul Goodman's incompetent aides, is not a household name but is highly regarded in the upper echelons of the comedy circuit.

The self-deprecating Boston comedian is known for his punchy and informal style of delivery and is well worth checking out.

Christmas is just around the corner. And to get us all in the spirit classical trio Affiniti have recorded a version of that classic carol Oh Holy Night.

Affiniti will be joined by the Palestrina Boys Choir and Carlow Choral Society with backing provided by the Philharmonic Orchestra Prague. The single is available to download now with all proceeds going to St Vincent de Paul Ireland.
