www Father Ted stars Joe Rooney and Paul Woodful, aka the Hairy Bowsies, will be hosting their Christmas party in the Bad Ass Cafe next Tuesday, December 17.

Joe, aka Scribbler O'Donohue and Fr Damo from Fr Ted, and Paul (aka Ding Dong Denny O'Reilly) will be dishing out an hour-long performance along with some special guests. And if that wasn't enough of an incentive to head along, there will be free pizza. What more could you want?

www Michael Fassbender is hot favourite to nab an Oscar for his role in epic plantation drama 12 Years A Slave. So the preview screening of the film, taking place at the Lighthouse Cinema on Monday 16 at 7.45pm will pull in plenty of avid film fans. The movie also stars Love/Hate actress Ruth Negga (above) who threw herself into the role. "I swam through a real Louisiana swamp," she said. "Sewage in there, and alligators. The stuntman told me not to worry, it was only knee deep!"

www RTE National Symphony Orchestra and the Abbey Theatre are bringing song and Shakespeare together for a night you won't forget in a hurry. The show, entitled Shakespeare in Music, will feature extracts from Debussy's King Lear, Berlioz' Romeo and Juliet, Sibelius' The Tempest, Walton's Henry V and Mendelssohn's A Midsummer Night's Dream. Directed by boy wonder at The Abbey Wayne Jordan, actors Derbhle Crotty, Nick Dunning, Peter Gaynor and Natalie Radmall-Quirke all bring the Bard's words to life.
