IF you're a big fan of ales, lagers and weiss beer then its well worth checking out the This Is Beer festival at 37 Dawson Street next Tuesday.

The evening celebrates the wonder of hops and barley and will be filled with beer taste tests, speciality brews and beer-infused bites.

WE'RE spoilt for choice when it comes to stellar concerts and music festivals this summer.

But if you prefer a hometown vibe then Castlepalooza, in the grounds of Charleville Castle, Tullamore, Co Offaly, is the festival for you.

The three-day festival takes place over the August bank holiday and Brazilian foursome CSS are headlining.

The group are best known for 2008 hit Let's Make Love And Listen To Death From Above. There are a plethora of top Irish acts including Tieranniesaur and Born Cheating.

EVERYONE loves a weepy wartime drama. And next week the curtains rise on The Gaiety's production of Sebastian Faulk's drama Birdsong.

Starring former Hollyoaks actress Sarah Jayne Dunn, the play features lots of dashing gents in military costume running on stage. With plenty of illicit affairs and high drama, this show will have you hooked.

But be prepared to have your hankies at the ready – this is set to be an emotional night.

THE Butler's Pantry is known for its wholesome platters and, more importantly, its unbelievably more-ish coffee cake. And now the artisan food store has opened its 10th branch in Castleknock.

Tomorrow is the opening and shoppers will be given the chance to meet their top-class chefs and pick up tips on how to rustle up delicious dishes.
