Stars to come out for Christy's charity evening

SOME of the biggest names in Irish music will perform at a special benefit night for Christy Dignam.

Westlife's Mark Feehily, making his first solo performance, Gavin Friday, Danny O'Reilly from The Coronas, Horslips, Shane McGowan and Mary Black are among those performing at A Night For Christy, which takes place in the Olympia Theatre on June 21.

The artists will be supported by Dignam's Aslan bandmates and will perform the Dublin band's signature tunes.

However, the biggest cheer of the night will come for the Aslan frontman himself, who has vowed, if well enough, to take to the stage.

Christy is currently undergoing treatment for two forms of blood cancer.

"We're going to be the backing band on the night for everyone playing and they had better be in tune," joked guitarist Billy McGuinness.

Aslan said they have been snowed under with acts wanting to perform at the gig, which is to cover Dignam's on-going medical expenses, and that some even bigger names may perform on the night without prior warning.

Dignam (52) was released from Beaumont Hospital last Sunday.
