Siva Wanted to quit to be a model, says sister Hazel

MODEL turned singer Siva Kaneswaran is making the most of his band's upcoming break, by reigniting his catwalk career.

The Dublin singer and model has warned that it is not the end for his band The Wanted when they split to pursue solo projects following their world tour.

But the 25-year-old will have plenty to keep him occupied as he is already busy with modelling work.

Siva, a native of Blanchardstown, is on the books with Next management in the UK and is also hoping to pick up some presenting gigs along the way.

Siva has been with the agency, which last week signed Una Healy's husband Ben Foden, since the summer.

Despite claims that not all of The Wanted members wanted the break, Siva's big sister Hazel (inset) said her brother, who announced his engagement to Nareesha McCaffrey last December, is making the most of his talent and good looks.

"Siva has a lot of other things going on, he's doing his modelling now and hopes to do some presenting," Hazel told the Herald.

"They are all doing their own stuff; Tom [Parker] has his own clothing line and Max [George] is doing his own thing with Buffalo underwear.

"When you are living in each other's heads 24 hours a day, taking a break is normal and Boyzone, Take That, they all did it," explained Hazel.

The mum-of-four said the announcement did not surprise her although she has been busy working on her new venture as a mentor in the upcoming RTE Eurosong competition.

"I heard about it when everyone else did because I have been so busy with Eurosong," she said. "Siva is so young, plus he's very talented and gorgeous looking so it make sense that he should try out different things.

"All of my brothers can sing so there are so many options open to them."

Hazel herself was tipped for stardom when she got down to the final ten on Popstars: The Rivals in 2002 – the show on which Girls Aloud was made – while she was pregnant.

But Hazel was asked to leave the show after ITV bosses discovered she was ten days over the age limit and Kimberley Walsh was drafted in as her replacement.

The 36-year-old is now back in the limelight as a mentor in the latest Eurosong competition, which is expected to kick off next month.

Hazel said that she was happy to hear the news of her younger brother's recent engagement to long-term girlfriend Nareesha.
