HIS late father was a veteran of the station and his sister Lottie currently enjoys a slot on 2FM.
And Clontarf native Rex Ryan (inset) is now gearing up to make his debut on the RTE radio channel.
The 24-year-old son of deceased RTE DJ Gerry Ryan has teamed up with DJ Colm Hayes, to star in a new sitcom produced by Colm specially for the airwaves.
Budding actor Rex, who recently graduated from the Gaiety School of Acting, enjoyed a busy summer work-wise and has been paving his way on stage and screen.
He previously featured in a music video entitled Up, with Tipperary-born model Roz Purcell and also appeared in the play The Circus of Perseverance.
He staged his dance comedy Boyz of Harcourt Street at Smock Alley in July, with pals from his production company Rocket Octopus Theatre and he is hoping to take part in Dublin Fringe this month.
Colm enlisted Fair City actress Sorcha Furlong to work with Rex on the project and they have the pilot in the can.
Sitcom "The station has not had a sitcom since Mrs Brown's Boys with Brendan O'Carroll, so we've a couple of episodes done and recorded, and I've written 20 of them," Colm revealed to the Diary.
"Rex and Sorcha star in it as the leads and at the moment I'm playing the third character, that's helping them through it and it's easy for the moment.
"We'll see what happens though," he said.
Along with Gerard Heffernan - model Thalia's dad - Colm is developing ideas for TV quiz shows, with the hope of selling the formats worldwise.
"I've got one really good idea for a reality show too," he said.
