Radio Nova unites old buccaneers

AHOY! Some of the biggest names in Irish broadcasting came together to recall their pirate radio days.

2fm's Colm Hayes, Today FM's Ian Dempsey, and TV3's Andrew Hanlon were among those marking the 30th anniversary of 80s pirate station Radio Nova.

Launched in 1981, it brought pop music to the masses before being shut in 1983. There were tales of its late founder, Chris Carey, and laughs at the fun in its Herbert Street HQ.

"That building could tell some stories," Colm Hayes laughed. "As regards Irish broadcasting it's the equivalent of the GPO in 1916". –KBK
